A Cure for Chronic Ear Infections
Dr. Dave Thomson
Ear infections are one of the most common diagnoses of children by pediatricians in the United States. 35% of all pediatrician visits in the U.S. are due to Otitis media and 46% of all three year-olds have experienced three or more episodes of this condition.
Long term complications of ear infections can cause speech problems, hearing loss and more importantly brain damage.
In my experience with pediatric ear infections, I've found a relationship between the spine, nerves and the lymphatic systems. When children suffer with otitis media the problems are normally in the cervical spine (upper part of the neck).
The lymphatic systems job is draining the fluids in middle ear. By combining a unique lymphatic massage technique I discovered while teaching at UCMT and removing the structural imbalance in the spine by adjusting it with a very gentle touch. The child's body is able to naturally and effectively return to homeostasis (balance), the inner ear will enjoy a healing event, curing the ear infections.
Even when children have had multiple rounds of oral antibiotics, eardrops and tubes, this combination of adjustments and lymphatic massage is successful.
Journal of Pediatric, Maternal and Family Health, reports improved hearing and the resolution of ear infections with chiropractic care. The improvement in the chronic nature of the infections was beneficial even after the implantations of tympanostomy tubes as well as multiple rounds of antibiotics.
.
Normally it may take several (3 to 4) treatments to achieve the expected results. The child's response has everything to do with how long they have been suffering and how healthy they are in the first place. In some cases it is a matter of changing some aspects of the environment. Diet and allergies do change the outcomes.
It is also reported that children are more attentive in school. With everything we know about the dangers of antibiotic abuse, chiropractic intervention makes perfect sense in the case of childhood ear infections. In fact, chiropractic is the treatment of choice for dealing with the structural and neurological aspects of ear infections.
